Summary: Responsible for the design and the development of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) databases to perform GIS analysis to support environmental, planning and GIS service related projects.
Management Scope: This position has no direct reports. Task level project lead, directs employees within a project.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Collect data at various scales (project, regional, or state-wide related data).
2. Restructure tabular and spatial data and assemble it into an organized geo-spatial database.
3. Interpret projects to realize data needs and assess processing/editing workflows.
4. Design and carry out spatial data processing and editing workflows.
5. Handle data in various source formats, coordinate systems, and spatial references.
6. Document and distribute geo-database to the network and specific applications.
7. Develop, design and program end user GIS applications.
8. Determine and develop GIS project goals.
9. Manage projects to include allocation of resources and provide input for status reports.
10. Write technical proposals and review proposals for technical integrity.
11. Prepare project cost estimates.
12. Lead project staff with the proper interpretation and evaluation of GIS data output.
13. Develop GIS models.
14. Perform spatial/statistical analyses.
15. Other duties as required.
| | | | | Job Requirements | Minimum Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in a science or planning discipline or equivalent experience
• Ten years GIS and environmental-related experience
• Three years project management experience
• Solid understanding and ability to create geoprocessing models for advanced analysis and reporting
• Advanced skills with ArcGIS (ArcCatalog, ArcMap) for high quality map production and editing
• Intermediate to Advanced Geodatabase skills
• Intermediate level with Model Builder and Python
• Familiarity with ArcInfo Arc Macro Language (AML) highly desired
• Basic understanding of Visual Basic desired
• Intermediate level with Microsoft Office, advanced level Excel skills
• Professional written and verbal communication skills
• Advanced analytical and problem solving skills
• Customer service skills and good interpersonal skills
