POSITION INFORMATION: Part-time NTE 32 hours per week temporary position not to exceed 05/20/2011

JOB SUMMARY:

The U.S. Coast Guard Academy, located in New London, Connecticut, invites applications for two Marine Science & Oceanography or Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Lecturer positions in the Department of Science. These positions are part time (32 hours per week) and will be for one academic year, beginning on August 2, 2010 and ending on or before May 20, 2011.

The U.S. Coast Guard Academy is a highly selective federal military college providing a rigorous undergraduate program. In addition, the Coast Guard Academy provides the professional education and training required to prepare young women and men for careers as commissioned officers in the U.S. Coast Guard - the oldest lifesaving service, well-known for its humanitarian missions. Offering B.S. degrees in eight academic majors: Naval Architecture/Marine Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Marine/Environmental Sciences, Operations Research/Computer Analysis, Management, and Government; the Academy is staffed with over 110 full-time civilian and military faculty. DUTIES:

2 vacancies - New London, CT
The U. S. Coast Guard Academy, located in New London, Connecticut, invites applications for two part time, temporary, one year teaching positions in Marine Science beginning on or about August 2, 2010. The first position will have teaching responsibilities in undergraduate Oceanography courses including Atmospheric and Marine Sciences for non-science majors and Physical Oceanography with laboratory for Marine and Environmental Sciences majors. The second position will have teaching responsibilities in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) including introductory and advanced GIS courses with laboratory. Applicants should be committed to outstanding undergraduate teaching.

 
Job Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Temporary position candidates should possess a Masters Degree or Ph.D. in Marine Science, Oceanography, GIS or a related science field. Candidates should have undergraduate teaching experience and have excellent written and oral communication skills. Professional experience of candidates will also be considered. Excellent interpersonal, teaching, and communications skills are essential. Please describe experience you've had, if any, promoting diversity initiatives, including efforts at creating communities of inclusion. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications. OTHER INFORMATION:

This job is being filled by an alternative hiring process and is not in the competitive civil service.
Moving expenses will not be paid.

The temporary positions are for one academic year, with responsibilities concluding on or before May 20, 2011.
