| | | | | | | Job Description | This position is for a mid level Software Engineer to join our talented team in the creation of exciting web-based mapping tools and applications. This team is responsible for maintaining the Seamless Data Distribution System (http://seamless.usgs.gov) as well as other GIS Data Portals for internal and external projects, US Government Agencies, and USGS Programs.
The candidate should have a broad technical background in developing software applications and tools using GIS COTS technologies as well as a background in C++, Java, JSP, and PHP. Additionally, the successful candidate will have general experience in Web application development techniques. The candidate should have experience or training in object-oriented application programming. An emphasis on GIS related technologies, C++ development environments, and Web/Internet application development will be preferred. Demonstrated experience with C++. Java, JSP, and PHP is highly desired. Candidates should have the ability to develop applications as a set of reusable components. Understanding principles of design patterns is a plus.
Excellent communications skills and proven team development experience are required for this position. The candidate must be able to integrate with a team of highly skilled GIS and web developers.
