Water Resources Analyst
Stanford University

Job Description
The Nature Conservancy, World Wildlife Fund, and Stanford University together seek a Water Resources Analyst for the Natural Capital Project. Our mission is to align economic forces with conservation by developing tools that make incorporating natural capital into decisions easy; by demonstrating the power of these tools in important, contrasting places; and by engaging leaders globally.

Our first tool, InVEST (Integrated Valuation of Ecosystem Services and Tradeoffs), is being developed to model and map the distribution of multiple ecosystem services across land- and seascapes. We seek a creative individual with strong spatial hydrology and programming skills for an initial 1-year position (with possibility to extend).

The successful candidate will assist the lead hydrologist in developing and maintaining water-related ecosystem service models within the InVEST tool, with an emphasis on informing land management decisions and policies.

Tasks will include performing spatial hydrologic modeling, computer modeling for surface water, floodplains, water quality, and reservoir management, and programming and compiling hydrologic modules into the InVEST framework.

Time may also be spent verifying models with field data or other models, presenting hydrologic models to diverse audiences, contributing to trainings and assisting technical staff in field sites around the world.

The position is based at Stanford University, with Gretchen Daily, and will involve collaborating widely with faculty as well as conservation practitioners at TNC and WWF.

More information on the project, a partnership among WWF, TNC and the Woods Institute for the Environment at Stanford can be found at www.naturalcapitalproject.org and invest.ecoinformatics.org.
