| | | | Job Description | The employee will work on a project funded by the U.S. Forest Service Climate Change Research
Program. The objective is to develop a web based decision support tool that can be used by forest managers to
map the locations of appropriate seed sources for future climates. The employee will also collaborate with the
members of the Taskforce on Adapting Forests to Climate Change (TAFCC). This position is funded from
October 2008 through September 2009, although there may be opportunities for continued employment beyond
Sept 2009 on related projects supported by the TAFCC.
Responsibilities: The employee will provide the GIS and web programming support needed to develop a webbased
decision support tool that can be used to map the locations of appropriate seed sources for a given species,
planting site, and climate change scenario. The software developed by the employee will run on inputs from the
user, pre-loaded GIS layers, and map-based functions to project seed zones (i.e., climate-based geographic
areas) into the future based on alternative climate change scenarios. The employee will also be responsible for
fully documenting the developed software, creating federally compliant metadata for spatial datasets, and
communicating their activities via reports, posters, and presentations at professional meetings. | | | | | Job Requirements | Required qualifications: Qualified candidates will have a M.S. degree (or B.S. and equivalent experience) in geographic information science, computer science, forestry, natural resources, geography, or closely related field. The employee must have extensive experience with GIS programming and analysis using software such as ArcGIS; knowledge of programming languages (e.g., Java, Java Script, Microsoft .NET, Python); experience using integrated development environment software (e.g., Microsoft Visual Studio), and experience developing internet web applications (e.g., ArcGIS server, ArcIMS, Minnesota Map Server). The employee should have experience creating and maintaining GIS metadata, and a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English verbally and in writing.
Desired qualifications: Experience with software used for relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle), statistical analysis (e.g., SAS), mathematical analysis, and Web Mapping Services (WMS) protocol is preferred,
as is a demonstrated commitment to promote and enhance diversity. M.S. degree preferred.
Employment status, salary, and fringe benefits: This is a twelve-month, fixed-term, full-time position (1.0 FTE), with re-appointment at the discretion of the Dean. Salary is $40,008 - $58,004, depending on
qualifications. Benefits include state retirement, group health, dental, life and disability, reduced tuition rates for employee or dependent at Oregon University Systems schools (restrictions apply), annual and sick leave.
