Job Description
Bucknell University seeks to hire a Geographic Information Systems Specialist for the Library and Information Technology organization. Library and IT is a dynamic, merged organization of 85 staff members. This position will be a part of the Instructional Technology team.

The primary responsibilities of this position are to develop, expand, and support a GIS user community by assisting students and faculty in the selection and use of appropriate GIS technologies; working with faculty and students in designing and executing projects using GIS; and providing instructional support in GIS. Bachelor’s degree with 4 years of professional GIS experience, or master’s degree with at least 2 years of GIS experience required. Experience in a higher education setting strongly preferred.

Job Requirements
Geographic Information Systems Specialist is a member of the Library and Information Technology organization. Library and IT is a dynamic, merged organization of 85 staff members. This position will be a part of the Instructional Technology team.

The primary responsibilities of this position are to develop, expand, and support a GIS user community by assisting students and faculty in the selection and use of appropriate GIS technologies; working with faculty and students in designing and executing projects using GIS; and providing instructional support in GIS.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• raising awareness of GIS and promoting its use in teaching and research across disciplines;
• professional consultation for faculty curricular development and/or research;
• supporting existing and new GIS classes —
content and technical support for students,
designing instructional modules and exercises,
trouble-shooting GIS software problems
• providing appropriate support for student independent research;
• organizing faculty and student learning opportunities and training;
• developing and maintaining geospatial data collections;
• overseeing lab facilities by interfacing with Library and IT staff;
• maintaining licensing, installation, and upgrades of GIS software, GPS hardware and software, and other field equipment;
• building and maintaining relationships with various community and regional organizations.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree with at least 4 years of experience, or master’s degree with 2 years of professional GIS experience is required, , preferably in higher education.
• Thorough familiarity with the tools and culture of GIS-based research, including proficiency with ESRI ArcGIS and GoogleEarth required.
• Proficiency in Excel, Access, SQL server, AutoCAD preferred.
• Experience with UNIX and LINUX based systems a plus.
• Experience in classroom instruction is a plus.
• Desire and ability to work creatively in a constantly changing university setting is required.
