| | | | Job Description | BACKGROUND INFORMATION ON SEATAC GIS:
The City runs current versions of ESRI products, including ArcGIS 9.2 and ArcGIS Server. The City has developed a comprehensive collection of GIS data about its environment, infrastructure and development.
THE POSITION:
GIS Interns are part of the City’s GIS team in the Finance and Information Systems Department. Successful interns are creative thinkers and problem solvers with the ability to work independently and in a team environment. Under the direction of the GIS Coordinator/Analyst or GIS Analysts, consolidate and enhance the City’s existing transportation and stormwater data sets for migration to geodatabase structures. Duties include:
Create, update and integrate GIS datasets using ArcGIS 9.2. Use Editor to create and modify data. Use ArcToolbox to manipulate data and streamline processes.
Create and modify simple maps using ArcGIS. Print maps, load paper into plotters.
Verify existing GIS data and collect new data in the field. Read engineering drawings.
Work collaboratively with other GIS staff; communicate and document project methods and status, developments, and hurdles.
Knowledge of:
Stormwater or transportation systems is a strong advantage.
Geographic Information Systems, including principles of coordinate systems and cartography.
Geodatabase principles; geometric networks, as they apply to stormwater systems or linear referencing, as it applies to transportation systems.
Skill In:
Problem-solving, trouble-shooting.
Reading engineering drawings is preferred.
SCHEDULE:
Flexible; 20-40 hours per week depending upon availability and budget
| | | | | Job Requirements | REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
College course work in an accredited college or university in Geography, GIS, Engineering, Computer Science, Planning or related field.
Use of ESRI tools, including ArcGIS 9.x editing, querying, geo-processing.
Windows MS-Office tools, including MS-Word, MS-Excel.
ESRI Model-builder and Python scripting preferred.
A combination of experience and training that provides the candidate with the knowledge and skills to perform the job will be considered. | | |
