WORK EXPERIENCE:
1. UNDP-Post Tsunami Environment Initiative Project

Role: Research Associate, Hydrology Component.
The project is being operated as a critical component of the UN Recovery Framework. The UN system developed a Post-Tsunami Recovery Framework which aids the Government of India in its post-tsunami rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts. This project is jointly executed by the Nature Conservation Foundation (NCF), Mysore, the Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE), Bangalore and the Citizen consumer and civic Action Group (CAG), Chennai.
Role Objective:
• To conduct an analysis of the impact of land use and hydrological changes at select sites in the coastal zone of the affected states.

Responsibilities:
• To undertake research, field work, administration and coordination related tasks of the Hydrology Component of the UNDP - Post Tsunami Environment Initiative Phase II being executed by the Coastal Programme at ATREE.To contribute to the synergy between the hydrology component and other social and ecological research components of the UNDP project.

2. Capacity Building Project
Role: Project Officer
This project was conducted by the Ecoliving Centre, Environment Unit, of University of New South Wales (UNSW) to study climate change mitigation and associated adaptations for UNSW properties and operations.
Project Objectives:
• To develop a database of UNSW properties with reference to potential and/or
expected impacts upon them from climate change.
• Provide strategic and operational recommendations for adaptation and mitigation options for consideration by the University.
Responsibilities:
• Classifying properties according to the types and level of Climate Change risks with the help of GIS technology.
• Identifying the SMART (Specific Measurable Achievable Realistic Timely) goals for conducting the overall project of upgrading the existing UNSW properties database with significant environmental criteria of the properties in accordance to the UNSW Environmental Management Plan – Action Plan.

PROJECTS:
1. Geographical Information Systems (GIS) - Consultancy Report for UNSW to extend its Facilities at Cowan Field Station, Sydney.
• Assessed the Cowan Field Station with respect to its geographical features using the GIS software, ArcGis 9.1. This required using GIS for environmental modeling, analysis and mapping in support of the project.
• Mapped and evaluated potential sites for construction by UNSW while maintaining the conservation values of the Cowan area. The key responsibilities included planning and organizing mapping activities and providing quality reports on time.
2. Wastewater Management System Design for Northeast Region of India
• Developing a manual for Wastewater Management System for the northeast region of India. This project required creating long-term plans to improve operations, meeting deadlines and working co-operatively and jointly with organizations and people overseas. Also documenting processes for organizing GIS data files for safekeeping and for easy retrieval.
• Designing an innovative system taking into consideration the issues, factors and concerns predominant in this region of India and incorporating sustainable practices into the manual so that existing work processes may be streamlined. Also advising on visual presentation of technical and statistical information to organizations, communities and individuals so that information may be understood and applied.
3. Environmental Auditing for the Grounds Department of UNSW
• Conducted an academic audit for the department as a part of their Environmental Auditing Module. The primary function of this role was to examine the institution’s Environmental System in terms of the university’s resources, infrastructure, wastes and hazards.
• The project output was to enable authorities to make educated decisions regarding better management of university resources by modifying current policies and by identifying areas for cost savings.
• Audit was performed against the AS/NZS ISO 19011: 2003 standard guidelines and provided recommendations where non-conformances were observed.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

• Assam in Indian national tournaments in the years 1997 and 1998.
